Chinese tech company discovers a way to make bezeless smartphones
Since the advent of touchscreen smartphones, much has been said about “very little” side bezels and big screen-to-size ratio of handset but none has been able to achieve this even till today. Last year’s LG G3 seemed to create a new milestone in terms of design. The LG flagship scored an amazing 75.3% screen-to-size ratio with just 1.15mm of bezels to each side.
It appears a special curve at the end of the said transparent overlay diffracts light from the panel in such a way, that it is essentially projected on it, extending beyond the actual display unit. This allows for the bezel of the display module to remain hidden, making it essentially invisible, without having to alter current manufacturing processes.
This year, it looks like Chinese company Oppo has finally arrived the great destination — “bezeless” smartphones. The tech company recently registered a patent which allows for a “sideless” touchscreen on smartphones. Today, a real life prototype of the technology was posted online.
While we are looking forward towards seeing a finished product without bezels on the sides of the screen, we do hope that the companies behind these techs really find a way to avoid accidental touches from the edge of the display as well as making the screens quite tough and to some extent resistant to cracking when dropped.
