Gionee Elife E8 Review
China has already established itself as a country that delivers low and mid-range smartphones. Though it has been criticized for its low quality performance despite delivering high specs, the mistakes are being rectified by the country’s top brands so that reliability terms can be built. One such company to stand affront is Gionee. Once the company had been unknown to most phone lovers is now globally recognized as a profound cell phone manufacturer. It gained more popularity after the introduction of their slimmest phones in the world.
A few models were launched in 2014 which were regarded as being the slimmest smartphones. Besides that, the performance specs were also improved so that a bonding of trust could be built with the customers. That said, Gionee has come up with its brand new Elife E8 smartphone which might be the next big thing in the world of high-range smartphones. Let’s take a look at how this phone can be a big hit or a disaster.
Externals: Design and Display:
Gionee Elife E8 comes in a gold finish which looks decent built. The screen size is 6.0 inches so it does come under phablet category. You get an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1440 by 2560 pixels @ ~490 ppi density. The screen is quite crisp to look at without any image distortions from any angle. Gionee also offers its user interface – Amigo 3.1 UI in it for a unique experience.
Taking a look at the internal specs, the Elife E8 offers Android OS v5.1 (Lollipop) first hand. Upgrades to next versions are yet to be announced but it probably would be getting those. You also get a Mediatek MT6795 chipset with Octa-core 2 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU processor. GPU offered is PowerVR G6200. Also to support all this processor chips, 3 GB RAM is provided with internal storage of 64 GB. An expandable card slot is not provided for the phone. You also get a battery of 3500 mAh which is quite good. However, it is a non-removable one.
Though it has a powerful processor, yet it might be a disappointment for Snapdragon lovers. Nevertheless, the specs do make sure that the phone performance with excellence. The only issue that can be faced is that being an open source system might make the phone deplete in performance with time. But, to compensate on that the RAM storage will help keep the phone running smoothly for years.
Camera and Connectivity:
Gionee has added a spectacular feature to the E8 for camera lovers. A 24 MP primary camera has been installed which offers 5632 by 4224 pixels. To support the high resolution, you also get features like autofocus, optical image stabilization and phase detection. A duel LED flash has also been provided for support low-light imagery. With the camera, you get to shoot 4K (2160p) videos at 30 fps. Besides that, you also get a secondary camera of 8 MP that shoots 3264 by 2448 pixels with autofocus. Other camera features offered are – geo-tagging, smile/face detection, HDR, panorama, touch focus with ½.3” sensor.
For connectivity, you get WLAN, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP and EDR. Plus, you get A-GPS and NFC as well. FM, etc. are also provided in it. You also get microUSB v2.0 with USB Host. If sensors are talked about, then the phone comes with gyroscope, compass, proximity and accelerometer. Seeing all the specs and features, they surely run brilliantly in the phone. One can get great pictures and connectivity with this one at hand. The high-end specs certainly make sure that the phone performs really well. Perhaps better than all its previous models!
Gionee Elife E8 has something more than the usual models that came out previously. This definitely is not Gionee’s first high-price range phones and would not be the last as well. Being able to cover so many specs and features just like the big brands, Gionee is confident in its ways to deliver something more to the world. The gold body might be a bling for many, but it would also be too vibrant for others. Other colour variants would be well-suited for the ones who do not like the gold approach. Besides that, the superb camera offered in the phone is one of the key features it possesses. Getting all those features with a 24 MP camera is something worth commending. Although, how fast it is able to take pictures is yet to be found out. And, surely with a powerful processor, it would certainly not be a problem.
Being a phablet phone, it might be hard to carry it around. But, thanks to the battery, the phone would be able to handle the software for hours without the need to charge it frequently. Having an aluminium body would surely make it heavy so it would be prudent to handle the phone carefully to avoid slipping. Gionee Elife E8 is something new to the world of phones not because of the specs, but because of a company that is still on the verge of expansion. Bringing a high priced phone in the world of smartphones is a risk that they are confidently ready to take up. Surely, it would do great in the Chinese markets where the users prefer their own company brands over foreign ones. But, the sales for this phone in other countries will decide its fate for real. It did perform wonderfully in the past, so why not this time as well. We’ll find that out soon enough. The phone has been priced at 645 USD in the Nigerian market.
