HTC plans to manufacture smartphones in India via a partnership with Global Device Network
In a recent update, HTC has plans to manufacture smartphones in India for the country and has partnered with Global Device Network Services, which already has a plant set up in Noida to do the same.
HTC targets the $160 to $450 range for producing basic level smartphones. Initially, this is the target as it hopes to achieve a good demand in the market before manufacturing high-end and top-notch smartphones such as the One Series. Since, this will be an affordable HTC mobile smartphone, it will be sold under the banner of ‘Desire Series’. To ensure that only high-quality products are produced, the manufacturer also plans to build their own quality control unit for the same.
This plan of HTC manufacturing smartphones in India has come in line with a range of brands- in-house as well as others that are following the same league. Last week itself, Celkon- an indigenous mobile manufacturer opened its manufacturing unit in India which was one of its kinds. This unit produces about two hundred thousand units per month. All the more 60% of the phones produced are feature phones while 40% are simple smartphones. In the last month also, India saw Taiwan and China entering the market to manufacture smartphones.
Taiwan Electronics paired up with Foxconn to manufacture its range of Xiaomi phones. The plant that is expected to be built in the state of Andhra Pradesh will be apparently a small scale unit with the capacity to produce 10,000 phones per month. The search for the ideal place has also begun, and the plan of setting similar 10-12 plants is in progress. There are also reports that it has already invested about two million dollars for the next five years in India. China too wants to offset the Indian market to manufacture its range of OPPO owing to the large success that it faced in the mobile department. It was set up last year, and the phone has claimed a sale of about four hundred thousand till date.
It seems more and more companies are targeting to manufacture smartphones in India, focusing on their demands to expand their business.
