But, there are others, who choose a phone for a feature that displays the phone’s individuality. Just think of a phone that becomes popular among the masses for a particular quality that no other phone would have possessed by then. Some mobile brands show up such features firsthand while others just upgrade an already existing feature. In other words, they just try to make it more capable in that particular feature. A similar approach has been done by the Indian mobile brand Micromax.
The company’s brand new Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 is claimed to be the slimmest phone by them. Slimming down the phone might have led to sacrificing a lot of specs, but looking at the phone in real time showed how well built it is. Micromax might be a company that has outdone the design in not only its own models but also in other brand flagships as well. But, how capable it can be is what we have to look at through this review explained down below. So, let’s get started.

The Canvas Sliver 5 is also worth looking at as the phone is, undoubtedly, a phone that will urge you to hold it in your hands. Seeing the phone, you might feel mesmerized by the excellent craftsmanship and the beauty it possesses. With the 4.8-inch screen delivering a bevelled edge, the phone certainly looks like a masterpiece to look at. And the slim built at just 5.1 mm will also awestruck the audience.
The screen features 1280 by 720 pixels at ~306 ppi pixel density, which is quite crispier than most phone screens. The addition of AMOLED capacitive screen technology makes it look even more beautiful for sure. Guarding the brilliant screen is a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Being slim, it is predictable that it would be lightweight. At just 97 g, the phone feels quite comfortable to hold in the hands for sure.
Internals: Hardware and Software:
The Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 offers Android v5.0.2 (Lollipop) firsthand. Being the latest Android version, it is surely a plus point for tech-savvies. Moreover, there might be better chances for future OS upgrades. Besides that, you get a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset with Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor.
People might think of the Quad-core processor being less compared to an Octa-core one, but the phone still has a decent processor chip, which would not cause any troubles. You also get an Adreno 306 GPU. Unfortunately, there is no card slot for expansion. Providing just one SIM slot denies one to use two numbers. You do get an internal memory of 16 GB, but surely that won’t be fully usable because of the system files. To support all the gadgets, you get 2GB RAM. All the specs are supported with just a 2000 mAh battery, which does not power the phone for a complete day ahead. So, the buyer will face frequent charging issues.
Camera and Connectivity:
The Sliver 5 features an 8MP primary camera with 3264 by 2448 pixels. You also get autofocus and LED flash with the phone. The ones who had more expectations with the camera of the phone might not be able to get any other intriguing features. Even the video recording is just limited to [email protected] It might have been a good step for Micromax to improve their camera performance even further. But, that might be another day. Besides that, you also get a 5MP front camera. If you are too much bothered about a high-quality camera, then you might want to check the camera quality once before using it.
Taking a look at the connectivity, you get Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with the hotspot. You also get Bluetooth v4.0. On top of that, GPS with A-GPS is also there. Micromax has also given an FM radio feature to the phone. You also get microUSB v2.0. Sensitivity features include proximity sensor and accelerometer. Overall, it can be said that the connectivity features could have been more than what have been featured. Being a phone that has gained so much popularity through its enticing advertisement, it should have something more up its sleeves. Nonetheless, the work on the design and style of the phone are top-notch.
The phone launched with a blast, no doubt – but despite it all, there are certain cons in it as well. While you get an AMOLED screen, but it still isn’t the best there is. Pixels are still low. The only reason why it looks good is because of the pixel density. Moreover, the processor chip is a good one but still not that brilliant compared to other smartphones in this range. Excellent protection of screen with Gorilla Glass 3 might give it a more sophisticated look, but the camera quality is still not what people had hoped about.
The phone does not support some of the features and despite it all it has been overpriced. This might make many buyers reluctant to purchase it. But, if you look at the design and style of the phone, then you are bound to be mesmerized by its superb looks. So, overall the phone is worth looking at. No matter how well Micromax is performing in its sales, etc., it still lacks the quality that purchasers expect from the phone models. If these features are properly worked upon with high quality, then there might be a chance to get a better response from the customers. There has to be more than just design and looks. A Quad-core processor, etc. is there, but to power the phone, good battery is also required. So, you might have to think twice before purchasing this costly phone. The Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 can be purchased at 280 USD.
