Nokia improves in India but Samsung and Micromax still lead
Microsoft will surely be impressed by this piece of news because this is what every company expects of it’s product — market share. According to data presented by an analyst, by name GFK, Nokia now holds third position in the world’s fastest growing smartphone market by a firm 12%.
Samsung came out first with 33% while the most popular local brand in India, Micromax, held on to second spot with 18%. The statistics was for a three-month period covering July, August and September 2014.
Meanwhile, on the feature phones front, Nokia improved quite well as it now has 21% market share and came only behind Samsung with 25%. Micromax steps in at second with 13.5%.
These numbers by GFK greatly contradicts with the amounts released by IDC a few months ago. On that account, the former says it’s numbers were purely based on actual sales not estimates.
“We track shipments, i.e. what is sold into the channel from the OEM and that is pan-India and not sell through in our quarterly Market Monitor programme,” a GFK spokesperson commented.
