Report: Apple will outsource iPhone 6s fingerprint sensor at TSMC
On who’ll be supplying parts for the Apple iPhone 6s, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Limited, also known as Taiwan Semiconductor, or simply TSMC, has just landed a juicy Touch ID production contract for the next iPhone.
According to a report by Digitimes, TSMC will use their next-gen “12-inch wafer fabs” to manufacture hardware for fingerprint sensors to be used in the Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, “using 65nm process technology.”
The source also claims that Apple’s current demand levels for Touch ID components stands between 30 to 50 thousand units every month. This could also mean that Cupertino is currently manufacturing just about that number of iPhone 6/6s units monthly, however, this doesn’t necessarily translate to the number of iPhones sold as that is feasibly way higher.
