Tecno M3 Review – Little Beast
Perhaps if you have seen the Tecno L3 preview we wrote previously, you ought to know by now that Tecno M3 is one of the Tecno N3‘s successors. Tecno M3 is a dual-SIM Android smartphone with 3.5 inches of display and has a measurement of 115.8 x 62 x 11.7 millimeters. The Tecno M3 we are talking about runs Android 4.2.2 right out of the box and is powered by a 1400mAh battery.
Key Features Of The Tecno M3
- 3.5 inches of TFT touchscreen display, 320 x 480 pixels in resolution
- Dual SIM slots, one supports 3G and 2G, the other supports only 2G
- Dual-core Mediatek MT6572E CPU clocked at 1GHz, 1GB RAM
- 5MP main camera, 0.3MP front-facing camera
- 1400mAh battery that lasts up to 300 hours in staandby
- 4GB internal storage(1GB user-available), expandable with MicroSD card
With a price tag that roams below 100 US Dollars, the Tecno M3 can be said to be a very affordable smartphone with it’s 5MP camera plus a front-facing camera for those who love luxury. The Tecno M3 inherited many features from the one it succeeded (N3), starting from battery, screen size and price, with advancements coming from the camera, connectivity(3.5G and 3.75G) and newer Android version (4.2.2). The Tecno M3 like any other Android phone has the fundamental human right rights (lol) to over 700,000 applications on the Google Play.
Body And Design
Trust me, you wouldn’t love the M3 at first sight, perhaps Tecno didn’t have the principle of love at first sight in mind when designing this phone. Tecno did a horrible job at the design of this phone, such that even though it has the same dimensions as the N3, it looked a bit more bulky than the sleek-looking N3. Tecno made another horrible mistake with the design of this phone, they put the ‘back’ key on the left side of the home key and placed the ‘options’ button to the right, forgetting that all their other phones (including the N3) had their ‘back’ keys to their rights.
Body And Design rating: 3/10
5 megapixel camera? Le superb! That’s what you though hugh? Well prepare for the truth. The Tecno M3 has a 5MP camera that can take pictures that reach 2560×1920 in resolution, enough to make a full-screen wallpaper for your PC without stretching! But let’s face it. Tecno M3’s camera is sharp, yet blurry. It takes awesome images and is aided with a flashlight for shooting at night, yet, when you zoom these pictures, you find out the images are not as sharp as they look from the wider view. Tecno did a good job by including a camera flashlight in this phone (most phones nowadays have flashlights anyway), the flashlight is bright, OK, and can be used as a torchlight too.
Camera rating: 7/10
A 1400mAh Lithium-Ion battery is not what you expect to last that long but this one on the Tecno M3 did quite well. Without heavy usage, this phone can go up to 4 days without charging. Heavy usage (browsing, music, calls, texting, etc) leaves the battery screaming for charging just after 24hours.
Battery rating: 9/10
The Tecno M3 might not have a beach body, but then, whatever Tecno did to turn this 512MB-RAM thing into a beast seems to be working. Quite a few phones with 1GB RAM are running Android 4.2.2 out there but Tecno M3 does it’s thing with no lags. Speaking of lags, game-play on Tecno M3 was quite awesome, no freezes or lags at all. HD games such as Real Football 2013, Raging Thunder ran utra smooth on this phone.
It might seem a tedious task but adjusting your senses to having the back key at the left side will only take a few hours, afterall, HTC Android phones and the Nokia Lumias all have their back keys to the left. But still yet, one thing stands out clear, Tecno M3 is a very good phone considering it’s price.
