Whatsapp now has nearly 1 billion monthly users
In 2015 alone, social networking platform Whatsapp added another 200 million monthly users, bringing the total number of active users on the service to 900 million — a hundred million users shy from 1 billion.
In 2014, Whatsapp announced that it served up to 600 million consumers in the month of August. A month later — in October, Silicon Valley-headquartered social giant, Facebook, who paid $1 billion for Instagram in 2012, acquired Whatsapp for $19 billion.
Whatsapp was invented in 2009 by former Yahoo employees Brian Acton and Jan Koum who in 2007 applied to work for Facebook but got rejected.
