Chemicals at Samsung and Apple factories might be the cause of cancer to workers

In as much as anyone would like to avoid the word “cancer” like it’s cancer (too bad it’s cancer itself), we felt the need to report this story supersedes whatever bad memories cancer might bring to our readers.

Here is an excerpt report from International Business Times:

Advocacy groups have claimed that chemicals being used in processor chip factories which supply Apple and Samsung are causing workers to develop leukaemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

It is alleged that the companies have so far ignored the working conditions that are believed to have resulted in more than 100 victims of these diseases, with talks between Samsung and a workers’ rights group to discuss the issue reportedly brought to a halt by the South Korean firm.

Samsung was reported to walk out on Supporters for the Health and Rights of People in the Semiconductor Industry (SHARPS) while the two parties were holding a meeting to see what can be done about Samsung factories and how families of dead cancer-stricken workers can be compensated.

Apple on the other hand, after series of protests in China, said that the factories where it’s products are manufactured are monitored to make sure they meet US Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.

However, two groups called China Labor Watch and Green America said it will cost Apple and other companies a “a shockingly small amount of money” to “stop needlessly exposing workers in Chinese manufacturing facilities to toxic chemicals now causing severe illnesses.”
