How To Enable Read Receipts On Your Android, iOS, Windows Mobile Phones

Read receipts in chats are important especially for individuals who have sent out an important message and would love to know if the destination user has received and digested the content of the message sent.

For this reason and some more, it is however important to know how exactly to navigate your way to activating such receipts in order to confirm if the other party is indeed ignoring you or has been busy as said.

To activate read receipt on your iOS, Android and other platforms is pretty the same depending on the application you’re dealing with. We will be handling the more popular Instant Messaging applications which cut across platforms for this purpose.

This tutorial could also serve the other option of helping you turn off your read receipts.

For iPhone iMessage users,

Step 1: Go to the Settings app in your phone

Step 2: Click on Messages

Step 3: Scroll to find the ‘Send Read Receipts’ and toggle it on or off depending on what you want.

The method above however does not work for Android or Windows mobile users as they have to activate theirs in-app.

For Android and Windows Mobile users;

Step 1: Open text message app.

Step 2: Got to the Settings option within the text message app > Text Messages.

Step 3: Turn off Read Receipts.

To turn off your Read Receipt on WhatsApp:

Step 1: Open WhatsApp messenger

Step 2: Go to Settings

Step 3: Go to Account > Privacy > Uncheck the Read Receipts.
