German research firm, GfK, has released market figures for last year’s smartphone sales. The analyst suggests that the industry oversaw about 1.2 billion smartphones sold globally.
According to the statistics, China was the biggest smartphone industry for the year following sales of 392 million units sold. North America was the only region that neared China’s towering sales but with less than half of that number — 178 million.
During the year, global smartphone sales jumped by a positive 23 % from 2013 (998 million) while revenue for the whole industry made a 15 % change, signaling the growing presence of cheaper smartphones. The revenue stood at 381 billion at the end of the year.
GfK believes that 2015 will see a huge deficit of 15 % in smartphone sales. Since as many smartphones were bought last year, many will be reluctant to purchase new smartphones this year, the firm argues.
