A hacker who identifies himself as ‘Oleg Pliss’, has taken over iPhones and iPads of people in UK, US, Australia and New Zealand; and is demanding money from the owners to let their phone.
One user said, “I live in the UK and this has also happened to me yesterday. Very worrying. And not a peep from Apple yet.”
Another, with an alias that read ‘Davefromtas’ insinuated, “We were also woken up at 3.30am by all devices blaring like a fire alarm…The message on our devices was the same as those already posted.”
A security expert from anti threat outfit, Kaspersky, David Emm, said that the hacker liekkly gained access to users’ Apple ID login via phishing or somehow else. And by gaining the credentials, the hacker can enable the ‘Find My iPhone’ service remotely on the affected device.
Some users in the UK cited that the alarm on their iPhones demanded £55 for their phone to be unlocked.
