Lenovo, Toshiba draw first blood at the IFA, unveil tablets

Hey there! In case you haven’t noticed, the 2014 IFA has kicked off  today. Many tech companies around the world will come together in Berlin to showcase their prowsess, and it’s China’s Lenovo and Japan’s Toshiba who outed the first products.

First, Lenovo’s Tab S8 is a sleek tablet holding an 8″ 1,920 x 1,200 screen. It has 2GB of RAM and a quad-core Intel Atom processor. The slate is running on a pure version of Android 4.4 KitKat.

Lenovo says the tablet will be sold at a too-good-to-be-true $199 price, with more details about the tablet surfacing.

So the Tab S8 has an 8MP camera at the back and a 1.6MP camera at the front. The slate features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE is optional tough the LTE model will be sold much higher than the Wi-Fi only version. Measuring 7.87mm in thickness and weighing in at 294 grams, Lenovo says the new tab will last seven hours on a single charge.

Toshiba Encore Mini

The Asian powerhouses are spitting a lot of fire at this year’s edition of the IFA. Now listen, Toshiba’s Encore Mini tablet will get you running Windows 8.1 on a 16:9 screen for just $199.

The touchscreen display measures 7 inches with 1024 x 600 pixels of resolution. The tablet itself is powered by a a quad-core Intel Atom CPU and 1GB RAM. It features 16GB of storage as well as a memory card slot for microSD cards.

The Encore Mini features a 2MP rear camera with another unidentified snapper (probably a VGA) sitting at the front. Shipping for the tablet begins on September 17.
