Just a few hours ago, Gionee will boast that the Elife S5.1 is the world’s slimmest smartphone, or as Guinness World Records calls it, the thinnest smartphone in the world. But that is no more, a new champ is in town — all hail the Oppo R5!
With a 4.5mm-thick body, this smartphone will obviously feel like a slice of paper in your hand. The metal frame of the device measures 148.9 by 74.5mm on the sides. The phone weighs 155 grams.
With that being said, the Oppo R5 isn’t only about slimness and sleek design, the smartphone also has a Corning Gorilla Glass-protected AMOLED 1080p display that measures 5.2 inches diagonal. That’s far bigger than what the now second thinnest smartphone (or third, when Vivo outlines their reported 3.8mm smartphone), the Elife S5.1 offers (4.7 inches).
Under the hood, the R5 is powered by a Snapdragon 615 SoC and 2GB of RAM. The phone uses a 1.5GHz octa-core CPU and Adreno 405 graphics card. The available storage of the phone is 16GB while there’s no space for a microSD card slot.
For photography, the smartphone uses a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5MP front facing selfie unit. There’s a non-removable 2,000mAh battery on the device as well as a microSIM slot.
For $499, you can have a unit of the Oppo R5 starting from a time that hasn’t been specified for now. Another device which Oppo revealed today, the Oppo N3, is also going to be released at a later date.
