While Google took the stage to announce both the Android L and Android Wear OS, Samsung and LG came all the way from Korea to present their new wearables at the San Francisco, California, event.

Samsung Gear Live

Samsung came back to using Google’s Android OS for it’s wearables again after we thought they are never going back again. The result: Samsung Gear Live.

The Gear Live has a 1.63″ 320 x 320 Super AMOLED display, is water resistant, has a 300mAh battery that can last throughout the whole day and has a 512MB RAM.

The watch will keep you fit via Google Fit and other Samsung fitness apps preinstalled inside. It will connect with your Android smartphone but Samsung didn’t say to which extent.

You can ask your Gear Live questions by starting with “OK Google” (talk about talking to the hand).

Update: The Samsung Gear Live will connect with all Samsung smartphones running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and higher.

LG G Watch

LG has finally ventured into wearables with the introduction of the G Watch.

The device connects with ANY Android 4.3 Jelly Bean phone (and higher) but you have to check at g.co/WearCheck to see if your smartphone is compatible — sure, we are not expecting many non-LG smartphones to be compatible though.

The G Watch is water resistant so you won’t worry about taking it to the bathroom with you. Just like it’s Samsung rival, it comes with Google Fit and you can ask it silly questions like “OK Google, like how many calories there are in an avocado?”

You can as well tell it to send text messages, set alarms, take notes and check the weather for you.
