Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch open up, reveals almost identical hardware

Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch

LG and Samsung have unveiled their respective smartwatches at Google’s I/O conference and now it’s time for us to reveal what’s inside these two wearables — the Gear Live and LG G Watch.

The Samsung Gear Live was first opened up. And guess what? A Wi-Fi module was found inside!

Samsung didn’t mention about Wi-Fi on the Gear Live but it seems the component was in there for a reason which we are yet to know.

A MAX77836 Low-Voltage step down was also found in the device. It also contained a Samsung KMF5X0005A-A210 512 MB DRAM while a Qualcomm APQ8026 (single-core Snapdragon 400) chip were found fixed into the device.

Next is the LG G Watch. A tiny gasket holds the G Watch shut firm when it’s coupled, thus the water and dust resistance.

A SK Hynix H9TU32A4GDMC 512 MB DRAM was found in the device while a Qualcomm APQ8026 chip is also present.

The guys at iFixit say that both the Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch are quite easily repairable. But then that’s not an excuse to open up your device if you don’t know anything about what’s on the inside.
