Samsung to pay Apple another $290 milliion for patent infringments

Judge Lucy Koh was in the middle of the trial once again as Samsung and Apple locked horns in court battle yesterday.

Last time the two met, Judge Koh vacated $450 million from the $1.05 billion Samsung was ordered to pay Apple for copyright infringements and said a retrial will be conducted to determine the actual money Samsung should pay Apple.

Yesterday, as lawyers, witnesses and security sat in a in Federal Court, Judge Lucy Koh gave a verdict that Samsung should pay an additional $290 million to Apple, bringing the total amount to ($1.05 billion -$450 million) + $290 million = $845 million.

A new trial will be held in March 2014 for the vacated $450 million, which is the sum of 14 Samsung devices which were involved in the case but moved to another case. TheĀ  14 phones whose trial will be held in March includes: Samsung Galaxy Prevail, Samsung Gem, Samsung Indulge, Samsung Infuse 4G, Samsung Galaxy S II AT&T, Samsung Captivate, Samsung Continuum, Samsung Droid Charge, Samsung Epic 4G, Samsung Exhibit 4G, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Google Nexus S 4G, Samsung Replenish and Samsung Transform.
